Les Gets: everything to know before you book
Skiing and snowboarding in Les Gets
Les Gets shares a ski area of about 120 km of marked pistes with Morzine, served by around 50 lifts, and is part of the Portes du Soleil, which links about 600 km of skiing across 12 French and Swiss resorts. The village’s own slopes are split into two sectors: Les Chavannes, a sunny, open area with an easy-to-reach snow front, and Mont Chéry, quieter, with more varied runs and wide views of the Mont Blanc range.
Much of the skiing is tree-lined, which makes Les Gets a good choice on snowy or flat-light days. From Les Chavannes you can ski over to Morzine, and from there continue towards Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes du Soleil. The Les Gets–Morzine area also has around 15 fun zones, including snow parks and mini boarder-cross courses for snowboarders and younger riders.
Les Gets for families and beginners
Les Gets is known for its gentle approach to learning. Les Chavannes has dedicated beginner areas a short distance from the village, and the progression from first green runs to easy blues is smooth. The Espace Grand Cry is a themed children’s area with games and challenges along the way.
Several ski schools operate in the resort, including the ESF and 360° International, with lessons for children and adults. The village is compact, friendly and relatively calm, and many families find it easier than a large, high-altitude resort.
Where to stay in Les Gets
Les Gets is a traditional Savoyard village of wooden chalets rather than a purpose-built resort. Staying near the village centre puts you close to the shops, restaurants and the lifts up to Les Chavannes, while accommodation near the Mont Chéry gondola is often quieter. Some chalets on the slopes above the village are ski-in/ski-out, but most guests walk or use the village shuttles to reach the lifts.
Accommodation ranges from apartments to catered and self-catered chalets and a handful of hotels, making Les Gets well suited to families and groups of friends.
Getting to Les Gets
Les Gets is one of the most accessible resorts from Geneva: the airport is about 63 km away, around an hour by road, depending on traffic and snow. Lyon Airport is about 2h30 away. The nearest station is Cluses, 22 km away, served by TGV from Paris and regional trains, with the Y92 bus up to the resort; the Y91 links Les Gets to Thonon-les-Bains. Once there, you can leave your car in one of the car parks and use the shuttles.
Beyond the slopes in Les Gets
The village has a relaxed après-ski scene, cosy restaurants and fondue evenings, and the Mechanical Music Museum, with its collection of barrel organs and music boxes, is a rare find in a ski resort. Snowshoeing, winter walking and wellness areas complete a stay for non-skiers.
In summer Les Gets is one of the leading mountain-bike resorts in Europe. Its bike park has 128 km of marked trails, from family routes to technical downhill, served by the Chavannes and Nauchets chairlifts and the Mont Chéry gondola. The resort hosted the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 2004 and 2022 and regularly hosts World Cup rounds. There is also an 18-hole golf course overlooking Mont Blanc, a lake for summer swimming and walks for every age.
When to go to Les Gets
The ski season usually runs from mid-December to mid-April. At 1,172 m, Les Gets is a lower village, so snow is usually most reliable from January to mid-March, and its tree-lined slopes keep skiing pleasant in bad weather. In summer, the bike park and lifts generally run from June to September, with July and August the busiest months.
